After a rousing song service, Pastor Clifton Knight, Education Director, Central Jamaica Conference (CJC) opened the day's proceedings with a warm welcome to all before giving an overview of the programme.
The devotional speaker was Pastor Michael Henry, Education Director, Jamaica Union (JAMU) who commenced by asking a thought-provoking question, "What do you see when you look at me?" This question formed the framework for his message, using the text found in Acts 4: 13. He went on to say that we should be witnesses reflecting the character of Jesus every day and to everyone with whom we come in contact. We have to present Christ and Him crucified or our worship is in vain. What we do speaks louder than what we say. Let the world see Jesus in you.
He made it clear that Jesus could witness to the Father because He knew Him personally and incited that we should do the same. He reiterated that despite our faults and blunders, there is hope in Jesus. He will present us faultless and reconcile us to Himself.
Pastor Henry concluded his timely and inspiring message with a renewed reference to the theme of the convention, "Total Member Involvement". The message is clear - we are the salt of the earth; we have a powerful message, one of love, temperance, morality and kindness to present to a society waiting to hear. He also remarked that a heart that is passionately in love with Jesus beats to the rhythm of Heaven.
He finally encouraged all the listeners present to recognize the need to fulfil the great commission found in Matthew 28: 19, 20 - to go out and tell someone about Jesus. The responsive congregation signaled their commitment to do so in 2019, echoing the words of the rendition from the Mandeville S.D.A. Male Chorale to "Go Tell Someone about Jesus".
Elder Anthony Gordon, the special guest presenter on Family Life relationship, highlighted the need for the church to address issues of domestic violence, mental health and sexual ignorance. His presentation was very interesting, interactive and informative and supported the fact that all our body functions are part of God's design.
The morning session continued with reports from the CJC Administrators and commendation from Pastor Levi Johnson, President, CJC to the pastors and their wives for their hard work, supporting role and spiritual leadership over the past years in positioning our church to respond meaningfully to the needs of our society. He also emphasized the need for the laity to play a full and active part in God's plan for reaching the lost in 2019 through evangelism.
Inspiring music was rendered at the highest quality from a number of churches including, Porus S.D.A. church choir, Royal Flat S.D.A. church choir and the Mandeville S.D.A. Male Chorale.
Let us tell someone about Jesus in 2019!!
